Fresh Flower Arrangements at Upton Grange

Compliments on the array of beautiful fresh flower displays are often made by visitors to Upton Grange. Our lady residents love nothing more than arranging the vases of flowers and placing them around the Home.  As well as being a lovely afternoon activity, the special flower arrangements throughout the Home adds to it look forever colourful and bright.

Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Arctic Convoys

Mr Tom Robinson

Our wonderful resident Mr. Tom Robinson attended the reception to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Arctic Convoys at Liverpool Town Hall on 31 October 2016.

The reception paid tribute to all those brave members of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy who endured what Winston Churchill described as ‘the worst journey on Earth’.  The guests were hosted by The Ministry of Defence, The Royal Navy and Liverpool City Council.

Halloween at Upton Grange

The Witches Tea Party

The Witches Tea Party

Hubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble’ were definitely the words to describe the events that took place at Upton Grange Residential home for Halloween this year.  Witches, spooky faced cakes, pumpkin pinata and lots of fun for our resident’s Halloween party!

Scary, gorgeous Cupcakes

Staff and residents had as much fun preparing the cakes and decorating the pumpkins as they did enjoying the themed party.

Certainly they had some frighteningly good ideas for Halloween Games and any coven of witches would be proud to join the spookily scrumptious Tea Party.

Visit by pupils from Upton Priory School

It is lovely to see young and elderly together and just recently Upton Grange was visited by 8 and 9 year old students from Upton Priory School.  The students spent time chatting and reading to our residents who enjoyed the visit tremendously.  The students will be visiting us weekly for the next five weeks and we look forward to seeing them again.

It was very exciting to receive a visit from ‘Owl Friends’ at Upton Grange.

Spike and Twiggy were accompanied by Pam Graham to meet the residents. Both beautiful owls have been hand reared by Pam and now visit many Care Homes in the area.

Spike is a 2 year old Barn Owl and weighs 10.5ozs.  Twiggy is a Tawny Owl and weighs 12ozs. Although we interrupted their afternoon nap, both Spike and Twiggy were very well behaved and extremely interested in meeting our residents. Everyone had a wonderful time meeting Spike and Twiggy and to have the opportunity to meet such beautiful owls was an experience to be remembered!

Easter Fun at Upton Grange

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Baskets at the ready!

On Easter Sunday our wonderful residents had an afternoon of great fun with an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Egg Raffle at Upton Grange.

It was quite a frenzy with our residents armed with Easter baskets hunting around the home gathering as many eggs as they could find.

The competition was on as one resident in particular proved he was the ‘King’ of Easter egg hunters gathering a whole basket of eggs.  Well done Ted!

On the hunt …

One of the family members who had joined us for Easter lunch sent us a ‘Thank you card’. Inside she had written:

Thank you for all your hard work which made Easter Sunday so special.  You all do so much to make sure the residents enjoy themselves. It is very much appreciated’. Laura

With our Easter egg raffle at lunchtime and Easter crackers being pulled, Easter hats adorned, all our residents sat down for a wonderful Easter lunch.

Upton Grange Welcomes Pets as Therapy

We were very happy to receive a visit from Alison and her Pet Therapy dog Katey at Upton Grange.

The aim of ‘Pets As Therapy’ is to bring regular animal OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAcompanionship and comfort to residents by means of visits from volunteers and their registered temperament-tested pets.

Katey, althougOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAh being a ‘very large dog’ was wonderfully sweet natured and the residents enjoyed sharing her warmth and kindness giving her lots of cuddles and tender care.

Katey made lots of friends and one in particular, Charlie, the resident canary, she found extremely interesting!

Thank you Alison for bringing Katey to meet us all.  We cannot wait to see you again soon.
